吉他弦沒有斷,是不是就不用換?

If a guitar string isn't broken, does that mean you don't need to change it?

Many beginner guitarists ask: If my strings aren't broken, do I still need to change them?

Guitar strings aren't only unusable when they break.

They will gradually age, oxidize, and lose their original brightness and elasticity.

You might still be able to play, but the feel will worsen, the sound will become muffled, and tuning might be less stable.

This is troublesome for beginners, as it's hard to tell if you're playing poorly or if the strings are truly past their prime.

For example, if your hands hurt when pressing chords, the sound is muffled, and tuning always feels off no matter what you do.

Many people's first reaction is: Am I untalented? Are my fingers not strong enough?

But sometimes, the problem might just be old strings, strings that are too thick, or the instrument itself needing adjustment.

There's no fixed answer for how often to change strings.

If you practice daily and tend to have sweaty hands, you might notice a significant difference within a few weeks to a month or two.

If you only play occasionally, the strings can last longer, but in Taiwan's humid environment, oxidation will still occur.

A more practical way to judge is to look at three things:

First, do the strings feel rough and scratchy, or even have black marks or rust spots?

Second, is the sound more muffled than before, lacking brightness, and unclear no matter how you play?

Third, does the tuning go out easily, or do certain frets sound particularly out of tune?

If two out of these three things are very obvious, you can consider changing the strings, or at least ask a teacher to take a look.

The worst thing for beginners is to keep pushing through.

Because a bad feel will make your practice harder and make you misunderstand many issues that aren't actually your fault.

Changing strings isn't something only advanced players need to know.

It's a very basic maintenance knowledge in guitar learning.

You don't have to change them yourself at first, but you should at least learn to judge when to change them.

This way, when you practice, you'll be more certain that you're facing musical problems, not equipment holding you back.
